Volunteer

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Chamberlin Mill, Inc. They participate in many dimensions of the organization’s work, from construction, equipment restoration, maintenance, and transportation to accounting, educational activities, and research.

 

Volunteers will always be important and new volunteers are always welcome.

Please contact us if you would like to participate. 

Past volunteer work has included:

  • Mill clearance and inventory

  • Reconstruction of a 19th century circular saw, saw carriage, and logways

  • Construction of an entrance deck and engine shed

  • Improvement of mill drainage

  • Acquisition and transportation of Mill artifacts and equipment*

  • Archaeological forays

  • Photography

  • Architectural planning

  • Accounting

  • Off-site storage of artifacts

  • Historical research, including diary transcription

  • Educational connections for student projects, including model building 

  • School and community presentations

  • Media interface

  • Event organization and support

  • Development work

  • Marketing for surplus equipment

  • Website design and maintenance


Future volunteers will support the Mill in similar ways.

Specific new projects include:

  • Mill interior construction and repair

  • Further site improvements

  • Historical analysis of 1890s diaries and other documents

  • Exhibition preparation
